Interest Groups

AAUW SCV Branch members have varied interests and have established many different groups over the years. Our current categories include:

Evening Lit

Evening Lit is a book club that reads fiction and non-fiction, popular choices and classics. Interested members meet in June and choose a list of books for the following year. On the first Wednesday of each month, at 6:45 p.m., we meet at a member’s home and discuss the author and the book. We attempt to enliven our reading experiences with unique outings. We do not meet in July and August.

The 2018-2019 Selections through June are:

September 5   1984 by George Orwell & Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
October 3         The Other Einstein by Marie Benedict
November 7     The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman
December 5
     Beartown by Fredrick Backman
January 2         Educated by Tara Westover

Mystery Literature

Holiday Brunch with author Joanne Fluke

Holiday Brunch with author Joanne Fluke

The group meets the third Thursday of each month at 10:30 a.m. Since the meetings are held at Barnes & Noble the group is open to everyone. The group discusses a selected mystery each month. We read a very wide range of mysteries from many authors, which leads to lively and stimulating discussions. The December meeting is a Holiday Brunch in a private home.

Lunch Bunch

Lunch Bunch at Wood Ranch 2018

Lunch Bunch meets once a month in different restaurants in the Santa Clarita Valley. The Lunch Bunch facilitator selects new or favorite restaurants, with input from the Lunch Bunch members, for good food and stimulating conversation. We meet at a local restaurant on the third Wednesday of the month at 11:30 a.m.

Bridge groups include regular bridge, duplicate bridge, as well as summer and winter bridge marathons. The regular bridge groups meet at 6:30 p.m. on the first, second and fourth Thursdays of each month while Duplicate Bridge meets on the third Thursday  at 6:30 p.m. The schedule for the Summer and Winter Bridge Marathons changes annually. See Calendar Page for details.
